Global Trade and Investment Promotion Summit
In 2022, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) initiated the Global Trade and Investment Promotion Summit at its 70th birthday. The Summit aims to build a high-level dialogue platform for the business community to jointly address global issues, cultivate new growth drivers for international economic and trade cooperation, and promote reforms of the global economic governance system. To date, the Summit has seen three successful annual sessions, showcasing China’s new contributions to global trade and investment cooperation and endeavors of advancing high-level opening-up.
The 2022 Summit was held on May 18, 2022. President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote video speech at the opening ceremony. Hu Chunhua, then Vice Premier of the State Council, served as the moderator and speeches were made by dignitaries such as Joko Widodo, then President of Indonesia, Guillermo Lasso, then President of Ecuador, Ngozi
Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, and other heads of important international organizations.
The 2023 Summit was held on May 24, 2023 and Vice Premier He Lifeng addressed the opening ceremony. Luis Alberto Arce Catacora, Bolivian President and professor Klaus Schwab, founder of World Economic Forum delivered video speeches. Dilma Rousseff, President of New Development Bank and Jin Liqun, President of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank shared their insights. More than 500 participants attended the summit on-site including delegations from 10 international organizations, such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development(UNCTAD), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization(UNIDO), and the World Intellectual Property Organization(WIPO), as well as political and business representatives from over 30 countries and regions.
With the theme of Bolster Confidence in Building Together an Open World Economy Through Win-win Cooperation, the Summit featured four parallel forums on Bring the World New Opportunities Through China’s Development, Pursue Innovation-led, Digitally Empowered Growth, Uphold Green,
Low Carbon and Sustainable Development and Pool the Strengths of Trade Promotion Agencies for Open Cooperation.
These forums were devoted to building broad consensus on promoting an open world economy and a community with a shared future for mankind.
The 2024 Summit was held on May 13, 2024. Vice President Han Zheng addressed the opening ceremony along with senior leaders from international organizations and economic institutions such as Dilma Rousseff and Sung Hwan Cho, President of ISO. More than 800 attendees joined us at the Summit, including representatives from seven international organizations such as the United Nations in China and the World Intellectual Property Organization, and political and business leaders from 39 countries and regions.Themed at Mutual Trust and Cooperation: Navigating through Profound Changes, the Summit consisted of a plenary session and three parallel forums, witnessing deep discussions on topics of Building Open and Win-win Supply Chains, Chinese Modernization: Sharing Opportunities for a Better World, Joining Forces to Realize the “ San Francisco Vision ” and Driving Economic and Social Development through AI. The 2024 Summit demonstrated China’s firm determination to provide new opportunities for the world through Chinese modernization and fostered consensus on maintaining stable and unimpeded global industrial and supply chains.
The 2025 Summit is scheduled for late May in Beijing. With approximately 800 participants, it will focus on major global economic and trade issues, promote inclusive economic globalization, and help create a more resilient and sustainable win-win development pattern by responding to business concerns worldwide amid the regionalization and fragmentation trend of world trade and investment. The Summit plans to invite senior Chinese leaders, foreign dignitaries, and heads of important international organizations and economic institutions such as the New Development Bank and the World Economic Forum to address the opening ceremony, contributing business wisdom to world economic recovery and development.
